Fontana Village Resort & Marina

This year’s Crossfires at the Dragon brings the end of an era, as this will be our final year at Fontana Dam, NC.
Do not book a room for next year, as we will be in a new location that will be announced in the coming months.
Please download and print the Attendee Packet and the Driving Tips. If this is your first year, please READ BOTH DOCUMENTS IN THEIR ENTIRETY.

Note that our room block fills up quickly.
Check-In Information
Check in with the hotel at the hotel desk when you arrive. Once checked into your room, head to the Blue Ridge Room downstairs to check in with the group and pick up your badge.
NOTE: WE CANNOT CONGREGATE IN THE MAIN LOBBY Please socialize in the downstairs lobby, parking lot, and Blue Ridge Room.
Agenda
We recommend arriving on Thursday so that attendees can participate in runs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Each evening at 9 pm, we will hold a meeting in the Blue Ridge Room to introduce run leaders, answer questions, and sign up for the next day’s run. Please don’t miss the meetings, as most runs head out at 8 am and if have not signed up on the list, the run leader will not know to wait for you.
You can view just the agenda here; it is also in the Attendee Packet
Runs
Our event is not a “car show”; we drive our cars most of the day, enjoying the beautiful mountains and sightseeing. The days can get very long, so pay attention to the descriptions and talk to the run leaders to determine the run that you will enjoy the most. Some runs are intended for more “spirited” drivers than others, and are rated to help you make a good choice. While we will not leave anyone behind, we also want to ensure that a slow driver doesn’t slow down a group of more spirited drivers. When in doubt, ask a run leader.
View the color-coded list of this weekend’s runs – subject to change – check the Run List often for updates!
Radios
Communication can be done by 2-way radios. Cell phone coverage will not work in all areas. If you need a radio, check out Amazon.com for some inexpensive radios for the trip. All group leads will have a radio and that is how they will communicate with you. You need not spend a lot of money; you can find a set of two radios (you need only one, but bring the second one to loan to someone who needs it!) for as little as $60. Look for an FRS radio OR an FRS/GMRS radio of 14 or 22 channels. Avoid the really cheap ones that sell for under $40.
Useful Information
Gas: Gas can be found at the entrance to Fontana Village, or 20 minutes away at Deals Gap. Some groups will get gas on their way out for their run of the day; however it is best for attendees to gas up the evening before your daily run.
Food: Fontana Village is very secluded, which unfortunately can make it challenging to eat dinner in a timely manner. In addition to its Wildwood Grill, there is also a General Store on the property, and there is a small store inside the gas station. Tapoco Lodge is about 20-30 minutes away, but is almost always full with reservations of those staying at its lodge. Lastly, Deals Gap is about 20 minutes away and has a great (and inexpensive) breakfast.
Weather: We are in the mountains, where temperatures can fluctuate significantly. Bring layers, especially if you are driving a roadster and want your top down in the morning – you’ll likely need it! It can also cool down quickly in the evenings, and you may find that you need bug spray as well as sunscreen.
Car Maintenance: Please be sure that you have checked out your car prior to your trip. It is amazing how many people we have seen arrive on bald tires, and it’s challenging to get help in the mountains. Make sure you’ve had a recent oil change, checked your fluids/belts/hoses, and bring any tools that might be able to help you in a pinch. While we do have people who can help you if something goes wrong, they are also on vacation and don’t want to spend it missing out on the fun because they’re helping someone fix their car.
Cell Service: We are in the mountains, and cell service is spotty. While you can usually pick up a signal in the main lobby, be prepared to not have a signal, especially on our runs.
